California Screamin’ – 25 Years of Disney California Adventure

On February 8, 2001, what was then known as Disney’s California Adventure opened at the Disneyland Resort. With it came Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Downtown Disney District, which had opened the month before. This coming week, the 25th anniversary of Disney California Adventure will be celebrated by the Disneyland Resort. This will include some special offerings that include new costumes for Mickey and Minnie Mouse on Buena Vista Street, the return of Soarin’ Over California Adventure, new merchandise, food, and a novelty bucket that is sure to be incredibly popular. On the 8th itself, a commemorative map will be given out to guests who visit the park (while supplies last).

Here at Daps Magic, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the past at some favorite offerings through the years. Some of these offerings are still found in the park. Others aren’t. And some can still be found, but have been modified or transformed through the years. We hope you enjoy going on a nostalgic adventure as we look back at Disney California Adventure in the coming days.

For the first look back at 25 years of Disney California Adventure, we went with the first thing that came into mind when I think of the early days of the park: California Screamin’. This was the original version of what is now the Incredicoaster. This opening day attraction remained a staple of Paradise Pier until its closure on January 8, 2018. The steel coaster is built to look like it was made of wood, reminiscent of the seaside boardwalks that can be found along the California coast. Below is a ride-through of the attraction from before it ended its run at the Disneyland Resort.

In the coming days, Daps Magic will be reminiscing about some of the other favorite things at Disney California Adventure that have made magical memories over the course of the last 25 years. Do you have any favorites that you think should be highlighted? What did you think of California Screamin’? Share your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and memories in the comments below!
