The original The Muppet Show series was created by Jim Henson. It ran from 1976 through 1981 and ultimately ended up airing in over 100 countries. It had many fantastic guest stars through the years, including Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minelli, Paul Simon, to name a few. It also earned Emmy, GRAMMY, Peabody, BAFTA, and many other awards. In 1978, Time magazine called it “the most popular television entertainment now being produced on Earth.” In 2026, the show is celebrating its 50th anniversary. All five seasons of The Muppet Show can be watched on Disney+. The Muppet Show special event will arrive on February 4th on Disney+ (12:00 a.m. PST / 3:00 a.m. EST) and ABC (9:00 p.m. EST/PST).

As can be seen by the trailer, poster, and photos, it appears that The Muppets are heading back to their roots, and this could mark a return to form.
