Disney has a live-action Tangled film in the works, and today it revealed who will be leading the movie.  Australian actress Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim of Disney’s Zombies franchise will be taking on the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The live-action remake of the 2010 Disney animated flick is being directed by Michael Gracey. Gracey has previously directed other musicals like Better Man and The Greatest Showman. This version of Tangled is also expected to be a musical, just as the original was. Kristin Burr will be producing the film. She has recently produced Freakier Friday and the 2021 live-action Cruella. This will all be built on a script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who wrote Do Revenge and Thor: Love and Thunder.

While the two main leads for the film are set in place, a big role still has to be filled. The role of Mother Gothel had Scarlett Johansson attached to it. However, this is no longer true. This is a big role in the movie, and at Destination D23 last year, Susan Egan pitched herself for the role if the animated film were to ever be made into a Broadway musical. She would undoubtedly be a fan favorite if cast in the role for the silver screen.

Teagan Croft has previously been seen as Raven in the DC series Titans. She also appeared in True Spirit as Jessica Watson. In this Australian film, she was a teenage sailor who attempted to go on a trip around the globe. The film streamed on Netflix in 2023. Milo Manheim is most well-known to Disney fans for his role in Disney Channel’s Zombies movies. He has also been in School Spirits on Paramount+ and Seymore in a revival of Little Shop of Horrors. 

At this point, the timeline for production and a release date for this film have not been released yet. Lucy Kitada is the executive producer for Tangled.
