Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to dominate at the box office. This weekend, the film celebrated its fourth consecutive weekend at the top. It brought in $21.3 million domestically. This brings the total of its domestic run up to $342.6 million. Globally, the film has earned $1.23 billion. While this is not as strong a run as the two Avatar movies that came before, it is still impressive.
It is also worth noting that Zootopia 2 continues to show strength at the box office as well. This weekend, it came in fourth at the box office and earned an additionall $10.1 million domestically. This comes as the film has been in theaters for seven weeks. It also continues to add to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ most successful film ever. To date, it has earned $1.65 billion.
The continued success of Avatar: Fire and Ash marks the third billion-dollar movie for The Walt Disney Company that was released in 2025. It follows the success of the live-action Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2.
There had been recent discussion in the media about whether the final two films in the Avatar franchise would be made if Fire and Ash wasn’t successful enough. Cameron admitted to Matthew Belloni on his podcast that if this film didn’t make enough money, he was “absolutely” ready to walk away from it. “I’ve been in Avatar land for 20 years,” Cameron said. “Actually, 30 years because I wrote it in ‘95, but I wasn’t working continuously on it for those first 10 years. Yeah, absolutely, sure. If this is where it ends, cool.” When asked about the open threads still in the story, Cameron responded, “There’s one open thread. I’ll write a book!” It would be rather surprising, at this point, if this ended up being the last Avatar movie.
