Tron: Ares Home Entertainment Review

‘Tron: Ares’ – Mr. Daps’ Home Entertainment Review

In Tron: Ares, the next chapter in the Tron trilogy flips things on its head when it brings beings off the Grid into the real world. Named Ares, this AI being comes to the real world and evolves beyond his programming. However, things aren’t as simple as that. There is also someone who wants to use this AI program for their own gain without a thought of consequence or care for who gets hurt along the way. Tron: Ares takes the Tron story in a new direction, raising new questions to be considered. It is now available for fans to watch from the comfort of their own homes.

Quality

Tron: Ares is a visually intriguing film to watch. It continues the trend of being innovative and visually appealing. In this case, the color schemes have changed with a red color becoming much more prominent. While the film continues to move forward with visual and audio effects, it also takes time to look back as well. At one point, the original Grid look is revisited. While not a replica, it was a nice salute to the original film. Overall, this is a movie that is enjoyable to look at and to listen to.

Extras

There were a few extras included with the home entertainment release of Tron: Ares. The highlight of all of these extras is director Joachim Rønning. His passion and enthusiasm for this film are infectious and enjoyable to watch. I kind of wish the extras had gone a little deeper on some things, as my initial thought was that they lacked depth. However, if you really enjoy the movie and this team, you’ll enjoy watching them.

Final Thoughts

Tron: Ares is not my favorite movie in the Tron franchise. While it looks very cool and brings up some interesting philosophical questions, it felt too disconnected from the other films. It is ok to disconnect from previous films, but if that choice is going to be made, it better be an incredible movie. This was not that movie. It does add more to the world of Tron. I am glad to have watched it and found some things very intriguing. I also just felt that the movie never really got off the ground. I found myself wishing it were more like Tron: Legacy. This is a film that some people will really enjoy and may open the world of Tron to new audiences. For those who have been around since the beginning, it might be a bit more hit or miss. I found the questions it brings up to be very intriguing. I just wish it also pulled me into the story more and made me care more. It seemed to be a movie that was full of enthusiasm and missed opportunities.
