Sesame Street and its partnership with Netflix are already paying off. A new parody sees some of the gang from Sesame Street facing their own Knives Out mystery. In this case, it’s Cookie Monster’s missing pie! This parody comes as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery debuted in theaters on November 26th and will arrive on the streaming service on December 12th.
In this video, the Muppets of Sesame Street are assisted by the great Beignet Blanc! This new Muppet is voiced by Benoit Blanc actor Daniel Craig. “I have arrived to this street of sesame, on a sunny day turned cloudy,” Beignet Blanc says in the video. “We have a culinary culprit in our oven mitts, and to solve this confectionery conundrum, we must look right in front of our googly eyes.”
This new partnership between Netflix and Sesame Street allows for a video that many thought would never happen before. Previously, Knives Out creator Rian Johnson had said that a collaboration with The Muppets (owned by Disney) wouldn’t be possible. Mainly, because of the implications of these movies, which could ultimately lead to the death of a Muppet. “The reality is, if you put Muppets in a Benoit Blanc movie, it would feel totally wrong because they would be getting murdered,” Johnson said. “The alternative is to just stick Benoit Blanc into a Muppet movie, which admittedly would be very fun, but would kind of break the reality of what Blanc is. Which is all to say: I would just love to do a regular awesome Muppet movie.”
The way Sesame Street approached this mystery, however, was quite a bit different. There are no humans in it, and there is no murder. Instead, it’s just a playful video about a missing pie.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery Official Description
Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. When young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. Wicks’s modest-but-devoted flock includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), tightly-wound lawyer Vera Draven, Esq. (Kerry Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), best-selling author Lee Ross (Andrew Scott), and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny). After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Rian Johnson writes and directs Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and assembles another all-star, award-winning cast.
