Earlier this year, at Destination D23, it was revealed that Cinderella Castle would be getting a new paint job. This new paint job would be inspired by the beloved classic paint job that many Disney fans had grown up seeing when visiting Magic Kingdom. One big question that has remained is when the painting would begin. It is now known. Walt Disney World has confirmed that the project will begin in January 2026. This will continue throughout the year, with the project expected to be completed before the end of the year. The updated paint will feature grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold, aiming to enhance the castle’s architecture.

The project will necessitate some changes in operations at Magic Kingdom, particularly for entertainment. Starting on January 28, there will be modifications to the Let the Magic Begin welcome show. Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire is expected to continue to be offered with some modifications as well. Happily Ever After will also continue to be offered, with minor modifications.
Guests will begin seeing things happening around the castle in early January. One of these things will be the draining of the moat. This will be done to allow for cranes to be able reach all of the castle throughout the painting process. Once the cranes arrive, they will also be seen in the mornings around the castle. However, they will be lowered by noon each day to allow guests to get their perfect pictures in front of this beloved icon throughout the rest of the day and night.
The announcement for this new paint scheme, based on the original for Cinderella Castle, was announced during the Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles panel at Destination D23. It easily received one of the most enthusiastic responses of any of the announcements that were made throughout the weekend.
Cinderella Castle was painted to its color scheme, which was billed as an EARidescent makeover, ahead of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort. At the time, Imagineer Zach Riddley shared that “Cinderella Castle will receive the royal treatment inspired by original elements featured in Mary Blair’s vision in the classic Cinderella film – shimmering pearls, jewels, and ribbons in royal blues and iridescent golds will wrap its turrets and towers in all directions. Above the castle gate, a dazzling 50th anniversary crest warmly welcomes Guests to join the festivities.”
After the 50th anniversary concluded, the details that were specific to the anniversary were removed. The base colors remained, however. Disney fans have clamored for a return to the original colors. This will now be happening in 2026.
