Since being announced several years ago, Disney fans have eagerly awaited the arrival of Porto’s Bakery and Cafe in the Downtown Disney District. Today, it was announced that a significant step forward toward realizing that dream has been taken. Construction has officially begun on the new Downtown Disney District Porto’s location near the west end of the Esplanade. When finished, guests will be able to enjoy their sweet pastries as well as California-Cuban-inspired dishes.
New Concept Art
Along with announcing that construction has officially begun on this new Porto’s, new concept art was also revealed. This provides a new look at the location, which will serve its signature Cheese Rolls, Potato Balls, and other favorites from its Bakery and Cafe. Here is a look at the new images that were shared:

As can be seen in the new concept art, there will be plenty of space created for sitting and enjoying the variety of offerings of Porto’s. This building also looks like it will be modern, but also have some references to other buildings nearby and the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa to make it loosely related visually. At the same time, it will still be unique to the Downtown Disney District as well.
When it opens, this will be the first Porto’s location with sit-down table service and a full bar. The original announcement for Porto’s coming to the Disneyland Resort was made during D23 Expo’s parks and resorts panel in 2022 by, at the time, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro. This role is now known as the Disney Experience Chairman.
Previously Released Concept Art
There have been other concept art shared for this location in the past. One shows a view of what the location will look like as guests walk up. This looks to be a larger look at the new location that is quite similar to one of the images released with this new announcement:

Another reveals what it will be like inside Porto’s. This shares a look at the vibe that will be felt when guests visit:

A New Building for a New Restaurant
Previously, the location that will be the home to Porto’s was inhabited by the La Brea Bakery before being taken over by the Earl of Sandwich. This Earl of Sandwich recently closed, and the restaurant will soon have a permanent home in the west end of the Downtown Disney District. This location will include a new Gordon Ramsay Gastropub on its second floor. The first floor will include the traditional quick-service Earl of Sandwich that Disney fans know and love.
Looking at the concept art for the new Porto’s, it appears that the location will be significantly larger than the building that La Brea Bakery and Earl of Sandwich inhabited. Expect to see lots of exciting things happening at the location in the future. Daps Magic will continue to monitor and share updates as they become available!
