Disney Reveals Teaser Trailer for Live-Action ‘Moana’

Ahead of its arrival in theaters next summer, Disney has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action Moana film. The film stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson returns as the demigod Maui. This new trailer gives fans a first look for fans to see what this live-action adventure will look like. It shows the majestic island and vibrant people of Motunui, Maui, the shapeshifting demigod, the intimidating yet adorable tribe of Kakamora, and Lagaʻaia as wayfinder Moana, and her performance of I Am Moana.

Joining Lagaʻaia and Johnson in the cast is Auckland, New Zealand, native John Tui as Chief Tui, Moana’s father. Samoan-New Zealander Frankie Adams portrays Moana’s mother Sina. Rena Owen from the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, plays Moana’s Gramma Tala. Take a look at the teaser trailer below!

The film is directed by Emmy® and Tony Award® winner Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”); produced by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and executive produced by Thomas Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth and Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated features “Moana” and “Moana 2.” Audiences can experience the brilliant cinematic sights, sounds and songs of “Moana” in U.S. theaters on July 10, 2026.
