On this day in 2008, Buzz Lightyear debuted in the 82nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The giant balloon measured almost 68 feet long and 40 feet wide, making him the widest balloon in the parade. His helmet alone measured 17 feet across. The Buzz balloon weighed 600 pounds, required 90 handlers, and flew for six years between 2008 and 2013. A brand new Buzz Lightyear balloon will fly in 2025’s parade to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Toy Story’ and the release of ‘Toy Story 5’ in 2026.
