On Sunday, September 21, 2025, The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland – A Special Edition of 20/20 will air on ABC. This special edition of 20/20 will be broadcast as the Disneyland Resort continues to celebrate its 70th anniversary. The program will air at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. This program promises to give a look behind the curtain of the Disneyland Resort and reveal some of the magic behind Walt Disney’s dream. It also promises to give a look into the future of what will be coming to the Disneyland Resort, specifically Disney California Adventure, with the expansion of Avengers Campus and new Coco and Avatar attractions.
Some special guests will also share their memories of visiting Disneyland as a kid. This includes Neil Patrick Harris, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jon Favreau, Patrick Warburton, and Tiffany Haddish. Disney CEO Bob Iger will also share about what the future holds. Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will also share what the park means to them and their family. Legendary Imagineer Bob Gurr will also share his own unique perspectives on the park, along with memories of working with Walt Disney himself.
Speaking of Walt Disney, the special will provide a special look at Walt Disney in Audio-Animatronic form in the new Walt Disney – A Magical Life show in the Main Street Opera House. This opened on July 17, 2025, the 75th anniversary of the opening of Disneyland. This is surrounded by exhibits showcasing the origins, history, and future of The Happiest Place on Earth (a tour can be seen below).
Other highlights will include Julie Andrews sharing about visiting the park with Walt Disney himself. Josh Gad will also share about his dream of becoming a Jungle Cruise Skipper coming true.
The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland – A Special Edition of 20/20 will air on ABC on Sunday, September 21st at 8:00 PM ET and then be available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.
