The Little Mermaid Float Smokes During Disney’s Paint the Night Parade at Disneyland

An issue with The Little Mermaid float in Disney’s Paint the Night Parade on Wednesday night saw it surrounded in smoke. Multiple people on social media shared photos and videos of the disabled float from Disneyland. According to those who were there, the float broke down during the first performance of the night as the parade made its way from it’s a small world to Main Street, U.S.A. While being towed through the Hub, an issue with the brakes led to the incident. This filled the area with smoke as cast members cleared the area around the float.

A TikTok video caught the incident and can be seen here:

According to eyewitness reports, there didn’t appear to be any performers or cast members on the float when the incident happened. The float was eventually towed backstage. It did not appear in the second parade of the night. Other floats and performers did not return for the second parade of the night. This included the Monters, Inc. float and the Mickey Mouse float. Disneyland shared that one cast member was seen and then released by First Aid.

This incident happened as the Disneyland Resort continues to celebrate its 70th anniversary. The Paint the Night parade was brought back as part of the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration. A video from the opening night of the full parade can be seen here:

Paint the Night is scheduled to be performed tonight at 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM. It is unknown how much this incident will impact the parade or how much of it will be shown. It would be unsurprising if The Little Mermaid float does not appear for the foreseeable future. Daps Magic will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
