Since being announced earlier this year, the new Disney theme park that is being built in Abu Dhabi has had Disney fans speculating about what will be coming to this park. Specifics have been few and far between. However, in the newest episode of We Call It Imagineering, a few details were learned about this new theme park and also its castle.
First off, the new castle will incorporate water into its park. “Abu Dhabi is a city on the water. We’re really excited about incorporating water into the design of one of our castles,” said Zach Riddley, Senior Vice President, global creative strategy of Walt Disney Imagineering. This makes sense when looking at the concept art that was shared when the new Disney park was announced. The castle that was shown looks like it could be a mix of ice or water that rises above the new park, right near the coast.
The second detail that was revealed couples with the first detail. “One of the first decisions we made as a company was to think ‘we’re going to create a castle park here,’ a park that’s based on our Magic Kingdom-style of storytelling.” He acknowledged that the artwork has been shared, but to stay tuned for more. While it had been presumed to be a Magic Kingdom-style park, this now confirms the approach being taken on this new Disney theme park.
At this point, there isn’t an opening date for the Disney theme park in Abu Dhabi. There isn’t an official name either. During its announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger referred to it as Disneyland Abu Dhabi. However, that could be a working name and not the name of the park that guests end up experiencing when it does open. In the coming years, more details about this park will undoubtedly be revealed.
