Pirates of the Caribbean at Tokyo Disneyland is found in a corner of Adventureland that looks and feels very much like New Orleans Square at Disneyland in California. The entrance is very reminiscent of the way guests once entered the attraction at the original Magic Kingdom decades ago. This was before the days of Fantasmic!, the bridge, and the new entrance queue. Walking up to Pirates of the Caribbean is like walking up to a version of the attraction that many of us have either faint memories of or have only seen in books/documentaries.
The Queue
Once inside the building, things seem even more familiar… yet different. The bones are the same, the decoration is different. It also becomes quickly apparent that the space of the building has been used differently… and also expanded. The queue goes further to the left, which would be outside in California. This is in a light and airy room with nautical decorations. It also appears that this could be expanded to go upstairs as well, where the Disney Dream Suite would be in California. For our visit to Tokyo Disneyland, this wasn’t utilized. Instead, we made our way around half of the room before entering what we would consider the main indoor queue at Disneyland.
The Attraction
Soon, we were aboard our boat and making our way through the bayou and into the pirate-infested waters of the Caribbean. There are many things that look…almost right to those who have been on the original attraction recently. In hindsight, the version of the attraction at Tokyo Disneyland in some ways is closer to Walt’s version of the ride in some ways than the California version is. There are elements in the attraction that have been gone for quite some time at the original Disneyland, including the Red Head.
Here is a ride-through video of Tokyo Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. This video includes walking up to the entrance, the queue, and the attraction. Hopefully, this gives a decent perspective of how this version of the attraction is similar and different from the one in California.
