On this day in 1975, the WEDWay PeopleMover opened in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The idea for the PeopleMover came from the ride vehicle mechanism of Ford’s Magic Skyway at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair. At Disney World, the PeopleMover uses linear induction motors to accelerate magnetically. Jack Wagner narrated the original 10-minute attraction that required a “D” ticket to ride. It was renamed the Tomorrowland Transit Authority in 1994. [50 years ago in 2025]
