Cigar Store Indian Main Street USA Disneyland

More Historical Plaques Appear on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland

More plaques are appearing on Main Street, U.S.A., denoting historical icons. This comes after a plaque was found earlier this week by Daps Magic team member Spencer for the Horse-Drawn Street Car. Now, there are plaques for other historical objects on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland.

Friend of Daps Magic, Spencer, found the following plaques added on Wednesday. They are for the Cigar Store Indian and the Town Square Cannon. The following photos were taken that show what has been added ahead of the official 70th anniversary of Disneyland on July 17, 2025:

Carved wooden cigar store Indian sculptures were common in towns across the United States. Shops used emblems and icons like spinning barber poles to advertise their wares and services to the largely illiterate public. Now considered a form of folk art, this statue has stood on Main Street since its early days, advertising the tobacco shop once located here.

Town Square Cannon

Cannon have long been used to memorialize military campaigns. Purely commemorative, the two cannon flanking Town Square are permanently sealed, never having been fired in battle. Dating from the 19th century, these once belonged to the French government.

The new plaques arrive as Disneyland continues to lean into its own personal connection with Walt Disney as the only theme park that he physically walked through. Disneyland has also created a show that honors Walt Disney, the man, in the form of Walt Disney – A Magical Life and its accompanying exhibit in the Opera House. Just outside, a window was dedicated over the weekend to Lillian Disney. In the Golden Horsehoe, a display could be found on Sunday honoring the 100th anniversary of Walt and Lillian Disney as well. The Horse-Drawn Street Cars themselves have also been decorated for the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration.
