Fans who want to eat at Porto’s Bakery and Café in the Downtown Disney District are apparently going to have to wait a bit longer. The Earl of Sandwich on the Esplanade side of the Downtown Disney District was set to close last week. Guests visiting the Disneyland Resort this week have noticed that people are still enjoying sandwiches, soups, salads, and desserts at the location.
The Disneyland Resort has confirmed that the closure of Earl of Sandwich quick-service and Earl of Sandwich Tavern, both in the former La Brea Bakery building, has been delayed. Because of the scale of this project, there are still steps to be taken before things can move forward. Already, permits had been pulled for the demolition of the current building and two ticket booths nearby. Porto’s will inhabit a new building that is built on the footprint and will be significantly larger than the one Earl of Sandwich is in.
The Porto’s at the Disneyland Resort will be the first from the company that have sit-down table service, a full bar, and also quick service in its Bakery and Café. Concept art for the new location was released, and originally, Porto’s said it planned to open the location in 2025. It isn’t known exactly when the new Porto’s will be opening now.

The Future of the Earl of Sandwich
Once the Earl of Sandwich closes the current location at the Esplanade end of the Downtown Disney District, it will temporarily remain open at a pop-up location that is already open near Star Wars Outpost on the west end of the district. A new two-story location is currently being built on the west end of as well, which will be the permanent home for Earl of Sandwich at the Disneyland Resort. When it opens, the new Earl of Sandwich will offer two dining options. It will have the traditional walk-up offering that fans know and love. It will also have The Carnaby Tavern upstairs. This will offer a table service experience for guests that is inspired by the ’60s “British Invasion” pop and rock bands from the U.K. There will be both indoor seating and patio seating, along with an indoor/outdoor full-service bar. Here is concept art of what this new location will look like:
