Lilo & Stitch continues to fly high at the box office. On its second weekend in theaters, the live-action remake of the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film took the top spot once again. Globally, the film has now earned $610 million. This puts it in the position as the second biggest release of the year.
With the pace it is at, it could become the top movie of the year and surpass the $947 million that A Minecraft Movie made at the box office. This would also set it on the path to passing the $1 billion mark.
Domestically, the film has brought in $280.1 million. Internationally, it has brought in an additional $330.7 million. The success of the film has already pushed The Walt Disney Company past the $2 billion mark at the box office.
“The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow, and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it,” Alan Bergman, co-chairman, Disney Entertainment, said after its opening weekend.
