Throughout Black Music Month, the Disneyland Resort has been offering dozens of different entertainment offerings throughout the Disneyland Resort as part of Celebrate Soulfully. In New Orleans Square on the weekends, some incredible groups have brought the stage to life at Tiana’s Palace for guests at the restaurant and also in Magnolia Park. Over the last weekend, the musical group bringing the area to life with its music was Charles Favors Zydeco Quartet.
The Charles Favors Zydeco Quartet is a group of four musicians, comprising a violin player, an accordion player, a rubboard/washboard player, and a tambourine and harmonica player. It has a wonderful percussive sound that brought the music of New Orleans to Disneyland. The Daps Magic team stopped by New Orleans Square to check out this quartet. See one of their performances here:
Next weekend, Charles Favors Zydeco All-Star Band will be performing on the stage at Magnolia Park and Tiana’s Palace on both Saturday and Sunday. Daps Magic will be on hand to catch at least one of these performances. Last weekend, Got Rhythm! got people’s toes tapping from the stage in New Orleans Square.
Zydeco is a music genre created in Southwest Louisiana by French-speaking Afro-Americans of Creole heritage. It blends African and Caribbean rhythms, blues, and rhythm and blues with music indigenous to the Louisiana Creoles, such as lala and juré. Generally, the main instruments for this type of music include the accordion and washboard/rubboard.
