Casting Details Confirmed by Pixar for ‘Toy Story 5’

During the Annecy Animation Festival, Pixar presented news regarding its upcoming slate of films. This includes the announcement of a new original film about a cat in Venice, Italy, called Gatto, and a look at next year’s Hoppers. The animation studio also shared more about Toy Story 5, which will arrive in theaters in the summer of 2026.

Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter revealed a few things about Toy Story 5, including some of the main casting. During the presentation, Docter shared that Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack as Jessie will all be returning for the next Toy Story story. He also revealed that this film will be a “toys meet tech” story that follows an 8-year-old Bonnie who discovers her new toy tablet. This device grabs her attention and also presents a new challenge for the toys to deal with. A two-minute clip of the film was shared with those in attendance at the Annecy Animation Festival.

Pixar is celebrating the 30th birthday of the Toy Story franchise, with the original film being released in 1995. It was the first ever feature-length computer-animated film to be released. It was also the first feature release from Pixar Animation Studios. It was released by Walt Disney Pictures. This is a film that revolutionized the industry and ushered in the era of computer-generated animation.

Docter was a supervising animator on the original Toy Story film. He shared rarely seen legacy footage from Toy Story. This film kicked off a legacy that has made Pixar one of the greats in animation. The franchise has earned 18 Academy Award nominations, and won 3 Academy Awards and a Special Achievement Award. Both Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 won best animated feature, and We Belong Together, from the third film in the franchise, won the best original song Oscar.
