Shanghai Disney Resort has broken ground on its new Spider-Man-themed land. This new land will be the ninth themed land at Shanghai Disneyland. It also marks the third major expansion of the park since its opening in 2016.
The milestone was celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony joined by leaders from Shanghai Disney Resort, Walt Disney Imagineering Shanghai, Shanghai Shendi Group, and the Administrative Commission of Shanghai International Resort, marking the official start of construction on the new land.
This expansion project was announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event last August. It will be located next to Zootopia. It will also include the park’s first major Marvel-themed attraction. The attraction is a high-energy, thrilling coaster that features Spider-Man. Guests will find themselves surrounded by Spider-Man and friends with shopping, food and beverage, and entertainment experiences. All of these will come together to extend the story and invite guests into the webslinger’s world.
After the D23 announcement, the following information was shared by the Disney Parks Blog regarding the new attraction: “Peter Parker has gotten himself — and us — in a bit of a tight spot. We’re going to follow HIM – at very high speeds – to get us out of trouble.“
According to information shared with shareholders of Shanghai Disney Resort, the attraction will include both a forward and reverse launch.
