The Walt Disney Company has changed the release dates for its next two Avengers movies. Avengers: Doomsday moved from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars moved from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027. Both films are being directed by the Russo brothers and see Robert Downey Jr. returning to Marvel Studios as Doctor Doom.
Along with Robert Downey Jr., the films also feature an impressively large cast of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The cast list for Avengers: Doomsday was released during a multi-hour livestream. The full cast list that has been announced to date can be found here.

Along with changing the release schedule for the upcoming Avengers movies, Disney also announced changes for the release dates for a couple of 20th Century films. First off, Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars will be released on May 27, 2026. The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be arriving in theaters on May 1, 2026. On top of that, Avatar: The Way of Water will be re-released in IMAX/3D on October 3, 2025. This comes ahead of the arrival of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, 2025. If this film is like its two predecessors, it will make a lot of money for the House of Mouse.
The moving of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars release dates sets Disney up for several years of strong holidays at the box office. The new MCU movies will follow Avatar: Fire and Ash. It is very possible that these three movies each are the biggest movie for their respective release years.
