On this day in 1958, ‘Walt Disney Presents’ aired “Magic Highway, U.S.A.” The TV special was written and produced by Ward Kimball, an animator who was one of Walt Disney’s “Nine Old Men.” At the time, the concept of highways was a novel one in the United States. The main portion of the program used archival footage to teach viewers about the development of roadways and travel. The final portion imagined what the future of transportation in America could be.
