Toy Story 5 has a new character with a very recognizable voice. This week, it was revealed that Conan O’Brien has joined the cast of the newest Toy Story film as Smarty Pants. This is a new character to the franchise. Andrew Stanton, the man behind Finding Nemo, Wall-E, and other films, is directing Toy Story 5 with co-director McKenna Harris. It is being produced by Jessica Choi.
The plot details for Toy Story 5 haven’t been revealed yet. However, it is known that it will address how kids are turning their attention to electronics over classic toys. The film will arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026.
The news was officially revealed at Disney’s Licensing Expo. This was followed by confirmation by O’Brien on Instagram. “These films are amazing,” the star said on Instagram. “I can’t believe this.” He jokingly added that his role is far better than that of Woody or Buzz: “It’s the best character of them all.”
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the film was being developed in 2023. Actor Tim Allen has said that the film has a “very, very, very clever story.” He added at the time, “Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it, and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks]. It’s really clever.”
The next film coming to theaters from Pixar Animation Studios is Elio. It will arrive on June 20, 2025. This comes after the massive success of last summer’s Inside Out 2.
