2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Toy Story. No one knew how Toy Story would change the culture of animation. All we knew up until then was hand-drawn animation that was using techniques made popular by the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Warner Bros.
However, that changed when Disney joined forces with Pixar Animation Studios to create the first computer-animated feature film. Through Toy Story, we met Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and countless other characters who came to life when their owner Andy, was not around.
Since then, we have encountered many more adventures through Toy Story 2 in 1999, Toy Story 3 in 2010, and Toy Story 4 in 2019. In 2026, the toys will take us on more adventures as Toy Story 5 is scheduled for release. Tom Hanks (voice of Woody) and Tim Allen (voice of Buzz Lightyear) are set to reprise their respective roles.
Toy Story went on to inspire numerous CGI animated films, along with the modern animation era. Pixar has made and released over 25 animated features since the original Toy Story, and has won over a dozen Academy Awards.
