Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is celebrating its 5th anniversary at Disney’s Hollywood Studios today. It opened on March 4, 2020. The attraction is the first ride-through that is dedicated to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The attraction first debuted at Walt Disney World Resort and then a second version of it opened at Disneyland Resort in 2023.
During a special opening ceremony, then Walt Disney World Resort President Josh D’Amaro said, “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a crowning achievement in the multiyear transformation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.” He continued saying, “What was once a theme park that took you behind the scenes, now puts you in the center of your favorite stories.”

A First-of-Its-Kind Ride
Based on the recent award-winning Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride at any Disney park that stars Mickey Mouse and friends.
Before the arrival of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the location was the home of The Great Movie Ride. This was a Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) opening-day attraction that took guests on a journey through iconic scenes in Hollywood History. The attraction opened on May 1, 1989, and closed on August 13, 2017. Daps Magic shot a video of this attraction as well:
