On this day in 1950, ‘Cinderella’ premiered in Boston. The beloved tale was based on Charles Perrault’s ‘Cendrillon’ from 1697. ‘Cinderella’ provided a much-needed boost for Walt Disney Productions. The studio was over $4 million in debt at the time of the film’s release due to impacts from World War II and disappointing box office results for ‘Pinocchio,’ ‘Fantasia,’ and ‘Bambi.’ ‘Cinderella’ became a huge hit and went on to be nominated for three Academy Awards.
