Jamie Lee Curtis Donating $1 Million to Los Angeles Fire Relief Efforts

Later this year, actor and Disney Legend Jamie Lee Curtis will be appearing in Freakier Friday. Her focus is not on this feature at the time, however. Instead, it is on the devastation that is found throughout Los Angeles and the area around it because of the wildfires that have been ravaging the area.

On Thursday, she posted that she will be donating $1 million towards relief efforts for these fires. Curtis said, “As the fire still rages on and @calfire@losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there.” The full post can be seen here:

On Wednesday night, Curtis appeared on The Tonight Show and shared about what was going on in Los Angeles. At times, she got emotional. “As you know, where I live is on fire right now,” Curtis said. “The entire city of Pacific Palisades is burning. I flew here last night, I was on the plane, started getting texts and it’s fucking gnarly, you guys. It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California. Obviously, there have been horrific fires in many places. This is literally where I live. Everything: the market I shop in. The schools my kids go to. Friends, many, many, many, many, many friends now have lost their homes. It’s a really awful situation.”

The fires began with the Palisades Fire on Tuesday. As of Thursday morning, this fire had destroyed over 1,000 homes, has burned over 17,000 acres in Pacific Palisades, and still has not been contained. The Eaton Fire has burned over 10,000 acres in Altadena and Pasadena. Another 1,000 homes have been lost to this fire.

Over 30,000 people have been displaced due to the Palisades Fire. Many of these have lost their homes. Some notable celebrities have also lost their homes. Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Eugene Levy, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, James Woods, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison and Ricki Lake have all lost their homes.

Currently, six fires are burning in the region. Firefighters continue to wage battle against them. The largest currently have 0% containment.
