Tangled is the next Disney animated feature that is getting the live-action treatment. The news comes as Disney ramps up for the live-action Snow White to arrive in theaters this spring. For this new version of Tangled, Michael Gracey is in talks to direct the film.
Gracey is most known for directing The Greatest Showman. The P.T. Barnum biographical musical drama starring Hugh Jackman was a slow-burning hit. It eventually made $450 million at the global box office. His most recent movie is Better Man. This is a semi-autobiographical story about British musician Robbie Williams, who is portrayed in the film by a chimpanzee.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson wrote the most recent draft of the script. She is being screenplays for Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Kristin Burr will produce for Burr! Productions with Lucy Kitada. At this point, there is no word on casting yet.
Tangled was released by the Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2010. It is based on the tale of the Brothers Grimm. The animated musical featured the vocal talents of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy. It was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard. The music was by Alan Menken with lyrics from Glenn Slater. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song for I See the Light. Tangled made $592.5 million at the global box office during its theatrical run.
At this time, there isn’t a known timeline for this film. There are lots of things that will need to happen before this makes its way to the screen. It follows other animated titles that have been made into live-action films by Disney. This includes Cinderella, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast,” Aladdin, Mulan, Dumbo and The Little Mermaid. They have had different levels of success and positive fan reception. Snow White and Lilo & Stitch are the next two formerly animated films that are coming out as a live-action film from Disney.
