On this day in 1959, the live-action adventure film ‘Third Man on the Mountain’ was released. It was based on the true story of Rudy Matt, a Swiss boy committed to climbing the Citadel, an unconquered peak that claimed his father’s life. The film was shot on location in the Swiss Alps and featured the Matterhorn standing in for the fictional Citadel. Walt Disney was inspired to create the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction during the filming of this movie. [65 years ago in 2024]
