Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Issues State of Emergency for Walt Disney World and Surrounding Areas Ahead of Arrival of Tropical Storm Milton

As Tropical Storm Milton continues to bear down on Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a State of Emergency ahead of its arrival next week. By the time it reaches Florida, Tropical Storm Milton is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 or 4 major hurricane.

The State of Emergency was issued for the following counties: Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia.

Both Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Studios are in Orange County. Ahead of the arrival of Milton, Walt Disney World Resort has paused hotel reservations for October 9th and October 10th. This is so that there can be rooms for cast members and other emergency workers who may need to stay at the resort. At this point, Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any other operational changes.

The arrival of what is expected to be Hurricane Milton comes as Florida is still recovering from Hurricane Helene. For Hurricane Helene, Walt Disney World Resort canceled Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. It also closed its water park and mini golf courses and suspended other outdoor activities.

Daps Magic will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Milton and provide updates as they become available.
