On this day in 1909, landscape architect Ruth Shellhorn was born. Three months before the opening of Disneyland, Walt Disney hired Shellhorn to design a comprehensive pedestrian circulation system for much of the park. She was responsible for the look of Town Square, Main Street, the Plaza, and eventually Frontierland.
