Walt Disney World Resort Under Tornado Watch

The Walt Disney World Resort is under a Tornado Watch as Tropical Storm Debby impacts the region. Previously a Category 1 hurricane, it has made landfall along the Gulf coast and is making its way through the northern part of the state. It’s impact is being felt across the state, however, with the Tornado Watch staying in effect until 4:00 PM EDT. There also have been multiple Tornado Warnings issued for Orange and Polk Counties.

Orange County is the home of Walt Disney World Resort. It has seen lots of rain and wind gusts impact the area. However, at this point Walt Disney World has not changed its hours for the day. However, with Tornado Warnings, guests should follow instructions from Cast Members and move inside and seek shelter when asked to do so. If hours or other major operations are impacted by the storm, updates will be shared by Walt Disney World Resort on its social media and website as well.

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to deluge Georgia and South Caroline with rain as it heads up through the two states. It will also drop plenty of rain on Florida as it moves toward Georgia as well. As of Monday morning, 300,000 Florida homes and businesses had no electricity. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that 17,000 linemen are working to restore power throughout the state. He also urged people in affected areas to sit tight to stay as safe as possible until conditions improve.

“When the water rises, when you have streets that can be flooded, that’s hazardous,” DeSantis said. “Don’t try to drive through this. We don’t want to see traffic fatalities adding up. Don’t tempt fate, don’t try to go through these flooded streets.”

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Debby is the fourth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. It has been preceded by Tropical Storm Alberto, Hurricane Beryl and Tropical Storm Chris. All three of these storms formed in June.

Walt Disney World Resort always keeps the safety of its guests and cast members in mind. Daps Magic will continue to monitor the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby and provide updates if they become available. Be safe if visiting the parks at Walt Disney World today and be aware of any directions that are coming from Disney and its cast members regarding safety in the storm.
