This week has been a big week for learning about the Disney Destiny. There have been announcements about dining experiences, accommodations, and character encounters. Today, the Disney Cruise Line also announced quite a wide range of Marvel-inspired additions to this new ship that will be joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet in november 2025.
“The heroes and villains theme of the Disney Destiny provides the perfect platform for us to collaborate with Disney Cruise Line on all-new, Marvel-inspired experiences guests won’t find anywhere else on land or at sea across the multiverse,” said Brian Crosby, executive, Marvel Experiences Development. “We’re honoring some of our classic heroes like Black Panther and Spider-Man on board, and we’re celebrating the larger-than-life personalities of the Avengers as inspiration for one-of-a-kind venues. This will be a must-do for all True Believers!”
The Disney Destiny will be taking guests on four and five-night sailings to The Bahamas and Western Caribbean from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida beginning in November 2025. Bookings will be open to the general public on September 12, 2024.
Below is a look at the multiple Marvel-ous announcements for this ship.
Grand Hall
The Grand Hall is the prominent gathering space aboard the Disney Destiny. For this ship, it will be themed to the Black Panther films. This continues along with having the duality of heroes and villains inspiring the creation of this ship. This space will be inspired by the mythical realm of Wakanda and will welcome guests into this experience with a space for adventure and relaxation. It will be inspired by the rich lore of the films, along with the distinctive iconography and vibrant palette.
To create the design for the Grand Hall, Walt Disney Imagineering’s design team consulted with the costume team for the Black Panther movies. The insights on the fashion from the films helped fashion the creative vision for the space. This includes metalwork on the pillars inspired by the banded armor and stacked jewelry that is found in Wakanda. There will also be a spectacular light fixture inspired by Vibranium. It will even have some incredible special effects to fill the room with life and color.
Each Grand Hall aboard a Disney Cruise Line has a statue that is a central figure in the room. For the Disney Destiny, there will be a stunning statue of T’Challa, the Black Panther: King of Wakanda. He was also the devoted son and beloved brother who was sworn to protect his kingdom. Now, he will stand on guard and protect the Disney Destiny and all who board her.
The Grand Hall also is transformative and can be a living theater as well. In this capacity, heroes and villains from across the Disney universe will take center stage and interact with guests in what is described as “thrilling ways.” The stage and 360-degree lighting effects will provide a kinetic environment that will come to life throughout each voyage with immersive shows and interactive programming. These will feature favorite characters from Disney, Marvel, and beyond.
Right off the Grand Hall, Saga will be found on decks four and five. This will be a place for guests to write their own vacation legends during while they enjoy daytime family activities or adult-exclusive evening entertainment. This will be a two-story state-of-the-art venut that will host a range of variety of interactive shows and event in an elevated environment. This location will also take cues from the architecture of Wakanda. Disney says that this venue is “charged with an electric atmosphere of possibility.” This will be in contrast to the more ethereal Grand Hall.
The Sanctum
The Sanctum will be an entertainment parlor themed to the powerful sorcerers and mystical artifacts of Doctor Strange. This will be a centrally located lounge that will host a variety of activities during a voyage. It will also offer guests a magical array of cocktails, spirits, and coffees.
As one would expect from something with the name Sanctum, there will be mystical items found in the location. These items are designed to aid sorcerers as they protect the world. There will be surprises to be found from Doctor Strange’s New York Sanctum at the location as well. This includes a circular mirror behind the bar that is reminiscent of the building’s iconic window.
Stern Decoration
The stern decoration is always an icon on a Disney Cruise Line ship that is recognizable from quite a distance and helps set the theme for the ship. In this case, there will be a Marvel Super Hero found on the stern of the Disney Destiny. The hero will be a larger-than-life sculpture of Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots. They are making a well-meant, if perhaps less than perfect, attempt at decorating the filigree on the back of the ship.
Tony Stark Suite
The Destiny Tour Suite will be a place that Iron Man fans will absolutely love. This Marvel-inspired penthouse will honor Iron Man’s legacy with a luxurious take on the sleek, industrial designs of Tony Stark. Throughout the penthouse, guests will find armor-like materials and mechanical elements that are balanced by soft, inviting finishes to create an opulent experience that will be exclusive to the Disney Destiny.
This suite will be found high up in the ship’s forward funnel. This is a one-of-a-kind suite that will offer incredible views of the top deck and beyond through its two-story window. The suite will offer nearly 2,000 feet of living space and comfortably sleep eight guests. There will be designated areas for eating, sleepling, playing, along with other perks including a kitchen and private ensuite elevator.
For guests who stay at the Disney Tower Suite and all concierge-level accommodations, there will be premium level of dedicated service and access to exclusive areas and amenities. This includes a Concierge Lounge and private sun deck. The lounge will be outfited with fanciful art pieces that celebrate the Avengers, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. This will be inspired by the sophisticated styling of their home base in Manhattan. This retreat will be a wonderful place to relax, sip cocktails, and also enjoy complimentary food and beverages throughout the day. It will offer an experience fit for a hero!
Two Galactic Experiences
There will be two experiences that will invite guests to once again help save the galaxy. These two experiences are already fan-favorites aboard the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure. They are inspired by characters from the Marvel Universe and immerse adventurers in their stories.
Worlds of Marvel
The Worlds of Marvel, the Marvel-themed dining experience aboard the Disney Cruise Line, will host guests for an out-of-this-world celebration. This will be starring Rocket and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. The experience will start as a tribute to the many Super Heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who keep the world safe. Groot will then take over the proceedings and bring things to the next level in the way only Groot could. Groot ends up organizing a surprise party for his friend Rocket, just in time for desert. The story will unfold onscreen as guests eat to the beat of an “awesome mix” of hit songs. Guests will also be tested on their knowledge of the Marvel Universe with trivia and activities that the whole family will enjoy.
Marvel Super Hero Academy
Guests 3 to 10 will get to become heroes during their own Disney adventures at Marvel Super Hero Academy in Disney’s Oceaneer Club. Marvel Super Hero Academy is a high-tech Avengers headquarters where young “recruits” are trained to become the next generation of Super Heroes alongside some of their favorite Avengers.
A Marvel-ous Ship
The Disney Destiny will be a Marvel-out ship when it joins the Disney Cruise Line fleet. The ship will be approximately 144,000 gross tons and powered by liquefied natural gas. This has become the norm for the Disney Cruise Line as they work to mitigate their environmental impact and help protect the world we live in. The ship will be just one new ship in a multi-year expansion that is underway for the Disney Cruise Line fleet. This started with the Disney Wish, which launched in 2022. Later this year, the Disney Treasure will be joining the fleet as well. Next year, the Disney Adventure will be joining the fleet. It will have its homeport in Singapore. These ships will be joined by a new Wish-class ship that will be based in Japan and arrive in 2029. This comes from a new agreement between Disney and the Oriental Land Co. Ltd. The Disney Cruise Line also recently began welcoming adventurers to its new island destiny in The Bahamas called Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
