The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first Star Wars film to be heading to theaters since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While not a lot is known about this film yet, there are a few details that are beginning to trickle out. It is known that Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian, will be directing it. It is also known that Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni will be executive producers on the film. Pedro Pascal is also expected to return as Din Djarin.
Now, there is news about who could be joining Pascal in the cast. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Sigourney Weaver is in talks to join the cast of this next Star Wars film. Weaver is a legend when it comes to sci-fi franchises. She has appeared in the Ghostbusters films, Avatar films, and even Alien films to name a few. She hasn’t visited a galaxy far, far away yet. However, if talks go well this could change.
The Mandalorian originally debuted in 2019 on Disney+. It followed the story of a bounty hunter and a young character commonly called Baby Yoda. It turned out, there were some pretty significant connections to the bigger Star Wars universe. While the show started in a fairly focused part of the Star Wars universe, it has expanded quite a bit over the course of three seasons. It also has led to spinoffs including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, which has a second season that is currently in development.
It is expected that The Mandalorian & Grogu will be filming later this year. It will then be released in theaters on May 22, 2026. The film will continue the story from where the third season of The Mandalorian left off. Now Din Djarin will be working for the New Republic. It would be unsurprising if other members of the cast of the series will be joining for the film. It also is expected that this will see the New Republic facing off against Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Imperial Shadow Council.
