The Lion King is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. For three decades, fans have been tapping their toes to Hakuna Matata, feeling the magic of Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and rooting for Simba as he takes his place on Pride Rock. As part of the celebration this year, Disney and Pandora teamed up together to create an all-new jewelry collection. This collection releases on May 23 (today!) and is inspired by The Lion King. This collection also arrives ahead of the new chapter in this story when Mufasa: The Lion King comes to theaters on December 20, 2024.
Disney The Lion King collection is comprised of six pieces. Each piece represents beloved characters and cinematic motifs inspired by the acclaimed animated classic.
Pearl Khwezi
Pearl Khwezi, who is the current Nala in Disney’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical in New York City, is helping celebrate this milestone with this new collection. She wore pieces from the collection for a photoshoot in New York City. This is a beautiful collection and includes a 14k gold-plated ring and Murano glass charm that nods to the scene depicting The Circle of Life, a 14k gold-plated charm, a sparkling splittable dangle charm made of sterling silver, a 14k rose-gold plated charm, and also a woven braided leather bracelet.
Pearl is a multi-talented Broadway actress with an incredible story. Her theatrical background spans from her home in South Africa, to Spanish Broadway and the Apollo theater in Harlem. She originally became a part of The Lion King in 2018. Along with portraying Nala, she also has covered the principle roles of Rafiki.
About The Lion King
The Lion King originally arrived in theaters on June 15, 1994. It starred the vocal talents of Matthew Broderick (adult Simba), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Jeremy Irons (Scar), and Nathan Lane (Timon) with the songs of Sir Elton John and Tim Rice. Hans Zimmer wrote the iconic score. Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff directed the film. It found immediate success with audiences and for a time was the highest-grossing animated film. It also went on to win two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Its success led to sequels and eventually in 1997, a Broadway musical. This musical has become one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time. In 2019, the film was re-made to look live-action with photorealistic computer animation. Directed by Jon Favreau, it also was incredibly successful. A sequel to this version of the story is coming out in December. This film tells the story of Mufasa and how he became king of Pride Rock
