Shanghai Disney Resort Provides Construction Update

Shanghai Disney Resort continues to grow and expand. As it continues to move forward, the resort has shared a construction update that details what is being done around the resort. This includes a new hotel and an expansion next to the new Zootopia-themed land.

The update shares how a new hotel is being worked on along the shores of Wishing Star Lake. It will have 400 rooms and so far has had its piling work completed. The next step will be the construction of the superstructure.

The update also talks about the expansion inside Shanghai Disneyland, which has already had two expansions. This includes the Toy Story Land and also Zootopia. Work is now being done to prepare a new attraction that will be separately themed next to Zootopia. At this point, Shanghai Disney Resort is in the planning stage with more updates to be shared in the future.

Shanghai Disney Resort opened on June 16, 2016. Daps Magic team member Murray was on hand for its opening. It’s first expansion, Toy Story Land, opened just two years later in 2016. Fast forward to 2023 and Zootopia opened at Shanghai Disneyland in December. This new land themed to the animated film is the 8th land found at Shanghai Disneyland.

Shanghai Disney Resort Construction Update

Shanghai, March 11, 2024 – In August 2023 leaders from Shanghai Disney Resort’s joint venture shareholders broke ground on construction work for the resort’s third Disney-themed hotel. This week the hotel development project management team completed piling work, a key phase in advance of the start of superstructure construction. Located on the shores of Wishing Star Lake, when completed the 400-room hotel will provide guests with even more accommodation options.

Since the resort’s opening in June 2016, the resort’s Shanghai Disneyland theme park has already undergone two expansions, with the opening of Disney·Pixar Toy Story Land in April 2018, and the opening of a second new themed land, Zootopia, in December 2023.

As the resort enters the Year of the Dragon, resort shareholders and management continue to show optimism about Shanghai Disneyland. Recently, the resort began initial preparation work for construction of a separately themed attraction to be located within Shanghai Disneyland, adjacent to Zootopia. The project work is at the initial planning stage and resort shareholders and management look forward to providing more updates as work progresses in the future.

The latest expansion plans demonstrate Shanghai Disney Resort’s commitment to providing new offerings and developing the resort as a multi-day tourism destination for guests from near and far.
