Star Trek

‘Flight Attendant’ Creator Steve Yockey Working on ‘Star Trek 4’ Screenplay

Another screenwriter has been brought in to write the script for Star Trek 4. Steve Yokey, who created Flight Attendant for Max, is taking a shot at writing the script for the final chapter of the Kelvin crew of the USS Enterprise. This would end the story that began in 2009 when Star Trek was rebooted with Chris Pine portraying Captain Kirk. He was joined on the Enterprise by Zachary Quinto (as Cmdr. Spock), Zoe Saldaña (as Lt. Nyota Uhura), Karl Urban (as Dr. Leonard McCoy), John Cho (as Lt. Hikaru Sulu) and Simon Pegg (as chief engineer Montgomery Scott).

Star Trek Beyond

The last film, Star Trek Beyond, was released in 2016. Since then, there have been multiple different attempts at coming up with a script for Star Trek 4. All of these have come up naught. The most recent attempt had director Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) and screenwriters Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) attempting to get the film into warp speed. It was supposed to have been released in 2023. However, Shakman ended up leaving the project to work on The Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios and the film remained in space dock.

A plot for this Steve Yokey version of Star Trek 4 isn’t known as things are being kept quite quiet. In recent interviews with the cast of the Kelvin Universe’s Star Trek, it seems that they really don’t know anything either. The only thing that comes out of this news is that Paramount is still trying to make this film work. It also seems that the film is moving forward at some speed, however slow it might be. There is no known production timeline or release date for this film at this time.

It also isn’t the only Star Trek project for the big screen that is being worked on currently. This film is being written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and directed by Toby Haynes (Black Mirror: USS Callister). It will also feature an all new cast that would introduce a new storyline with new characters to the franchise. There is also a project that was announced in 2021 that is in development with screenwriter Kalinda Vazquez (Fear the Walking Dead).
