Disney Treasure is Floated Out to Make Way for Disney Destiny

The Disney Treasure has reached a new milestone ahead of joining the Disney Cruise Line Fleet. A few weeks ago at the Meyer Werft Shipyard, things got very busy as the Disney Treasure was set afloat for the very first time. This is always a major milestone in the building of any ship as it does what it is intended to do, go in the water. In this case, this wasn’t to go sailing around the world but to simply float and be moved. To do this, the building where the ship was being constructed had water pumped into it from the Ems River. As the water filled the room, the hull was lifted from the floor of the chamber.

With the ship now floating, it was able to be moved to a new location. This is where the next phase of its construction will take place as it enters into the final phases before sailing to Florida and then taking guests on magical adventures.

Sister Ships

With the Disney Treasure move, there is now room in its former location to get to work on the next ship that will be entering the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Destiny. The Disney Destiny recently had its keel laying ceremony in the building formerly housing its sister ship. The Disney Destiny promises to be a ship of legends that will have a theme of “Heroes & Villains.” The ship will draw on the legacy of so many beloved Disney stories, character, and even theme park attractions as it forges a cruise vacation where guests will be empowered to embrace their own calling. This will help create memories that will last a lifetime in a way that only Disney can with its deep roster of magical stories.

With the Disney Treasure now afloat and the Disney Destiny being constructed, it is a very exciting time for Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering. Soon both ships will be next to each other in the shipyard. They will be a physical reminder of this incredible era of growth for Disney Cruise Line.

A Growing Fleet

The Disney Treasure is set to be the sixth ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It is the second ship in the Wish-class, the first being its sister ship the Disney Wish. It will take its inaugural cruise in December 2024. This will be followed by the Disney Adventure, set to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2025. This ship is a Global class ship and was purchased after its former owner went bankrupt before its completion. The Disney Adventure will find its home port in Singapore. The Disney Destiny is also expected to be delivered to Disney in 2025. The Disney Cruise Line is also expanding with its new island destination Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas.
