Only Murders in the Building

Season 4 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Heads to Los Angeles

After three seasons set in New York City, specifically at the Arconia, Charles, Oliver and Mabel are heading to Los Angeles for season for of Only Murders in the Building. Craig Erwich, who oversees ABC, Freeform and Hulu, said that at least part of the fourth season will be taking place in LA. He shared the news in an interview with Deadline.

“I’m very excited to see Steve [Martin], Martin [Short] and Selena [Gomez] take a little break from the apartment building and come to Los Angeles,” Erwich said. “So in the same way that [series co-creator] John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to tell what I think was one of the most unique seasons you’ve ever seen, the same unique Only Murders take will be applied to Los Angeles.”

The news comes as not a huge surprise to anyone who watched season three of the series. At the end of the season after spending most of it focused on a murder connected with a musical, Mabel was invited by her boyfriend Tobert (Jesse Williams) to move to the west coast with him. At the same time, Oliver was encouraging his girlfriend Loretta (Meryl Streep) to follow her son Dickie to California as well. Charles also has motivations to leave after his stunt double Saz (Jane Lynch) was murdered in his apartment at the Arconia with a bullet most likely meant for him.

“I love New York — the characters, the richness, the depth is endless — and it’s a New York show,” Hoffman previously said to TVLine. “But I don’t want to be afraid of things that make you go, ‘What?’ ‘Where are we?’ ‘Where are they now?’ I think you have to do that so it doesn’t feel too insular.

“[The Arconia] is our apartment building, and much like how we want to get out and be in New York as much as possible, I think you also have to remember this trio and the potential for whatever would be happening in their lives that might lead them to go away for some reason,” he explained. He also assured us that the Arconia will always be a part of the show, adding: “It’s our building! I love it so, and we have devotion to it in every way.”

At this point, there are still a lot of unknowns for the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building. A production and release timeline has not been revealed yet for the season. It also isn’t known if Streep or Williams will be appearing in the fourth season of the show.
