A new Jurassic World will be coming to theaters on July 2, 2025. The news was made in a cryptic post on Jurassic World social media channels. There is more to this story about just a date, however. There is the start of a new storyline of a franchise that has already included two trilogies and made over $6 billion at the box office. The last movie Jurassic World: Dominion alone made over $1 billion at the box office. Clearly those numbers are enough to keep Universal Pictures digging for more gold in this mine.
According to Deadline, David Koepp has returned to write this script. Koepp wrote the script for the original Jurassic Park and also The Lost World: Jurassic Park. David Leitch is also reportedly in talks to direct the film. It isn’t expected that previous cast members from either trilogy will be returning. What is expected is that this will be a new take on the franchise.
This new Jurassic film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will join as producers as will David Leitch and Kelly McCormick through 87North. Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will be overseeing this movie for Universal Pictures.
The first movie in the franchise, Jurassic Park, was released in 1993. It was an immediate hit as it it tapped into people’s fascination and fears of dinosaurs. In the coming decades, five more movies were released in the franchise. The most recent switched from Jurassic Park to Jurassic World. The original film(s) starred Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. The Jurassic World films saw Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard step up to center stage. Now, a whole new cast will get a chance to face off against dinosaurs in presumably a new terrifying adventure.
An official name for this new Jurassic World film has not been released. At this point, all that is known is that it will be released on July 2, 2025.
