Today the Disney Cruise Line revealed new Bahamian-inspired outfits for Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. These outfits will be worn by the duo exclusively when guest visit them at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point! This is on the island of Eleuthera. They were specially designed by the acclaimed Bahamian fashion designer, Theodore Elyett. Disney shared today that these new “garments will have a distinct Bahamian flair inspired by the bright, colorful spirit of Junkanoo, the country’s signature festival filled with joyous music and vibrant parades.”
Disney couldn’t have found a better designer for the outfits Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will be wearing at Lookout Cay at Lightouse Point than Theodore. This Bahamian designer not only created these new outfits that were inspired by the culture and colorful hues of island life. He also has created incredible designs for Miss Universe contestants, celebrities, brides, cover girls, and government officials!
Theodore grew up in Nassau, The Bahamas, and was surrounded by both art and fashion. His mother even owned a sewing factory. He started to make dresses at a young age. His first designs were on the runway when Theodore was 13 years old. This also happened to be in 1998, the same year that Disney Cruise Line set sail. He went on to design for Miss Bahamas contestants and Miss Bahamas Universe. The rest, as they say, is history!
His newest subjects to create designs for is Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. These new outfits will be seen on the duo when Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point opens in June of 2024. Their outfits will just be a part of a collection of colorful works that will be created by local creators that will be found throughout this new island destination.
“The beauty of Mickey and Minnie’s looks are that they are literally ‘Junkanoo Fun in the Sun,’” Theodore said. “When you talk about the print, pattern, color, texture of Junkanoo, they’ve got that.”
Mickey and Minnie aren’t the only ones getting new looks, however. Theodore is also designing new outfits for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip ‘n’ Dale to wear at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Disney promises to reveal these in the future as well before guests start visiting this new island destination.
