Downtown Disney District Construction Update - Disneyland Resort - September 1, 2023

Photos/Video: Downtown Disney District Construction Update – September 1, 2023

It is getting very exciting to watch and see the progress being made on the transformation of Downtown Disney District. Buildings are beginning to take shape and it is getting easier to imagine what a completed Downtown Disney District will one day look like, at least in terms of how the footprint for the location will look like. With the reopening of the Monorail this week, things were even easier to see coming to life for guests riding in the highway in the sky.

Daps Magic team member Angela stopped by the Disneyland Resort on Friday, September 1, 2023 and went for a ride on the monorail to see how things were progressing. She took both photos and video of this trip that documents the progress that is being made on the transformation. It really is quite impressive, especially when compared with a tour from earlier this summer at the beginning of July. In the last two months, the buildings really have begun to take shape! Take a look at where they are at as of September 1, 2023 below.

Looking at this transformation, it is becoming easier to see how this lines up with the concept art that was initially shared. This newest step in the evolution of Downtown Disney District is drawing inspiration from Southern California mid-century modern architecture. Along with including dining and shopping locations, it promises to have a lawn for relaxing as well. New dining locations will be joining reimagined favorites like Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio. When completed, Din Tai Fung will be found in the district. Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytan will also bring Paseo and Centrico to the former homes of Catal & Uva Bar. Concept art for the new Downtown Disney District was shared earlier this year. Take a look and see how the transformation is coming to life from the artwork below to the reality shown above!

The Downtown Disney District’s transformation is expected to be completed by the Holiday season in 2024. What do you think of the progress that is being made? What are you most excited to experience once it is completed? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
