Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Plans to Cut More Than $3 Million on Walt Disney World Area Road Maintenance

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is cutting more than $3 million on road maintenance for Walt Disney World Resort. This cut comes as legal fees continue to rise for the district. The news comes from a proposed budget for the district for 2024.

The new budget notes that “Repairs and maintenance services decreased due to option to due [sic] less paving rehab.” In 2023, repair and maintenance spending was $16,610,892 and for 2024 it is aiming to be $13,456,790. This will be a decrease of $3,154,102.

There has been significant work done on some main roadways owned by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District around Walt Disney World Resort. This includes a major reworking of World Drive to improve the traffic entering the Magic Kingdom area. Other roads that the district controls include Buena Vista Drive, EPCOT Center Drive, Osceola Parkway, and Western Way.

It is unknown exactly how this cut in the budget will impact the roads around Walt Disney World Resort. Depending on how the roads hold up, this could mean no noticible difference for drivers in the area. However, anything is possible.

The board for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District will be meeting tonight and could pass this budget.
