Fans of the Haunted Mansion will soon have even more to geek out about. Today, the Disneyland Resort announced that the Haunted Mansion property will be expanding. The expanded grounds will create more space for an enhanced and immersive queue. This will continue the story and lore of the Haunted Mansion outside of those Haunted halls and walls. There will also be a new stand-alone shop at the exit of this beloved attraction as well. Along with releasing details about this new expansion in New Orleans Square, Disney also shared come concept art for what is to come that can be seen below.
The legend behind the Haunted Mansion that this now haunted manor was once built by a prosperous sea captain. Now, years later, the mansion’s staff continue to maintain the happy haunting grounds. The newly expanded queue will be tying into these stories along with some others. There will also be new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madam Leota, and the one-eyed cat.
The multiple gardens found in the expanded grounds of the Haunted Mansion will all include unique elements. This includes a water fountain and a gazebo and also themed statuary and landscaping. Guests will also be able to check out a new greenhouse where the groundskeepers for the Haunted Mansion continue to grow the plants for the grounds. For those who are wondering, the pet cemetery and also the horse-drawn funeral hearse will continue to be found on the grounds of the Haunted Mansion.
Madame Leota’s presence will also be expanding at the Haunted Mansion. Soon, an all-new retail shop will be found at the exit of the Haunted Mansion. This will be the carriage house for the mansion, which belongs to Leota. Disney promises that they are “dying” to tell more details about this shop in the future.
Just outside of the Haunted Mansion grounds, enhancements will be coming to the plaza between the Haunted Mansion and Tiana’s Palace. This is an area that is full of history and memories by many. There will be a new, elegant park-like setting for the plaza that will create a place for guests to relax and also enjoy the ambiance of the area (including live entertainment) under the shade of both historic and new trees.
Disney shared that construction will begin on the expansion of the Haunted Mansion grounds in January of 2024. During this time, a new elevator will also be added for guests with disabilities to exit from the Haunted Mansion.
Finally, Disney shared one more clue about Leota’s new gardens outside of the Haunted Mansion. Objects that are found in this space will be inspired by her incantation. This can be heard in this video ride-through of the Haunted Mansion that was filmed recently at Disneyland:
