Disneyland’s New Orleans Square Train Station Damaged by Small Fire

A small fire damaged part of the train station area in New Orleans Square earlier this week. The fire caused minimal damage and nobody was hurt, Anaheim Fire officials told the Orange County Register.

The fire happened very early on Thursday, December 29, 2022, with the Anaheim Fire Department getting the call at 3:29 AM. The fire was quickly extinguished. The fire happened in the radio house of the New Orleans Square train station. Anaheim Fire Department and Disneyland Fire Department crews took about 15 minutes to put out the flames.

The fire damaged the train station radio house building that Disneyland employees use as a break room. The building is between the New Orleans Square depot and a water tower that refills the steam engines. The damage did not disrupt train operations. In the morning, guests were transported around the Grand Circle Tour of Disneyland without any delay.

The New Orleans Square station was originally known as the Frontierland Station. Two months after the opening of New Orleans Square opened in 1966, the station received its new name. The main station at the location was based on the train station set in the 1948 Disney film So Dear To My Heart. The set was given to Ward Kimball and Walt Disney requested it back for the park. However, Kimball had put a lot of extra work into the station and wanted to keep it. Because of this, Walt Disney had a replica built.

Following the incident, construction walls and a scrim were erected to conceal the damage while it is repaired. It is unknown how long it will take for the area to be repaired.
