‘Avatar’ The Most Successful Movie of All Time

Avatar is officially the most successful movie of all time, for now. The 13-year-old movie has garnered $2.9 billion at the box office. This is the first film in history to do this. The movie has broken lots of records through the years but also has faced competition. In 2019, Avengers: Endgame passed up Avatar at the box office with $2.79 billion. However, this turned out to be short-lived when Avatar was rereleased in China and 2021 and the film reached $2.8 billion.

The film reaching this milestone comes ahead of the first of four sequels being released. Avatar: The Way of Water will be arriving in theaters in December. The original movie was released in theaters to build toward the sequel. There will be three more following that. If there are future re-releases of Avatar, it could very well reach the $3 billion mark.

While Avatar might be the top-grossing movie of all time, it doesn’t hold that same record domestically. Domestically it is in fourth place after Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Its sequel most likely will not pass any of these records. Avatar: The Way of Water is projected to earn $650 domestically. This is still very impressive but also about $123 less than Avatar made in its original run domestically. It is even more impressive considering how the theater has changed since 13 years ago, particularly after the pandemic.

What do you think about Avatar reaching this new milestone? Did you see it in the theaters either originally or in a rerelease? What did you think of that? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
