The attraction is a fan favorite at Disneyland and originally opened on March 18, 1967. It gives a Disney-fied look at the life of pirates in the West Indies in the 17th and 18th centuries. Through the years it has been updated multiple times. This includes the addition of Captain Jack Sparrow and more recently Redd.

This attraction is iconic and so is the music it accompanies it. The song, A Pirates Life For Me has lyrics written by Xavier Atencio and music by George Bruns. Versions of the attraction can now be found in different Disney theme parks around the globe.
