Guests who have parked at Mickey & Friends or Pixar Pals parking structures at the Disneyland Resort have been walking from the parking lots to the theme parks since the Disneyland Resort reopened its parks earlier this year. This will soon be changing. Starting in early 2022, the trams will be returning to shuttle guests back and forth from the parking structures.
The return of the trams will come after the Disneyland Resort takes some time to work on the maintenance of the trams and also rehire cast members. This will be happening in the next couple of months.
The walk from the parking structures to the main gates of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure is nearly a mile. It was first had by guests when the Disney California Adventure was opened for A Touch of Disney this spring. As the parks officially reopened, the trams continued to sit idle and guests continued to make the trek to and from the parks from the parking structures.
The decision to not utilize the trams was made initially as a safety consideration due to the pandemic. It also provided some cost-savings for the Disneyland Resort as it returned from being closed for over a year. As conditions have changed, the Disneyland Resort has continued to bring back different offerings. In terms of transportation, this includes most recently the Monorail and before that the buses to and from Toy Story Parking Lot.
A specific date for the return of the trams has not been given yet. It has just been shared that they will be returning in early 2022.
