Emma Stone Returning for Cruella Sequel

Emma Stone has inked a deal with Disney to return and play Cruella de Vil in the upcoming sequel of Cruella. This origin story for the 101 Dalmations villain was released in theaters and also on Disney+ with Premier Access and garnered $222 million in worldwide ticket sales. With the recent controversy over this release strategy for Black Widow and Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit, there had been some questioning on if Emma Stone would follow her lead. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case with this new deal.

The news that Emma Stone is returning for Cruella 2 has her joining original director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara for this sequel. This seems to indicate that Disney was happy enough with the first movie and the people who made it want to go for a second.

At this time, it isn’t known when Cruella 2 will be released. With things still fairly early in the process, it could be quite some time. It also isn’t known how it is going to be released as Disney still navigates what releasing movies will be like as the impact of the pandemic continues to influence the movie industry.
